We are back in The Green Room and today we are joined by the super talented Aaron Johnson!
Aaron thanks so much for taking the time to join us…. firstly let’s just set the story! In 2015 you were honoured at the McDonald’s 365BlackAwards…. firstly that’s amazing but secondly you were only 14 years old!! Fast Forward 4 years how has your career progressed as a writer and director?
Firstly thank you for allowing me to be apart of The Green Room. Well my career has definitely taken a turn for the good, since starting my production company at age 9. I have done several projects since including Television pilots, a feature and more projects the public will soon come to know.
The story of your film ‘Lost’ is certainly deep and well crafted! When you’re writing what inspires you?
Usually when I’m writing it comes naturally to write out the project however my story ideas comes in weird ways. A show or film concept can come from me looking at a plant or something as insignificant as an inanimate object. I guess its just the gift God has blessed me with and I take such pride in it.
‘Lost’ can be seen on many online platforms including Amazon Prime…how does this feel seeing your work available for everyone?
It’s a great feeling to know that anyone, anywhere can view the film and prayerfully be touched or impacted by it in some way.
Perhaps a question you hear often but how do you cope with pressure at such a young age?
That’s a really good question, I’m use to the pressure especially being so young in this industry you have to always prove yourself. Its still a journey and an everyday walk for me to know that I am good enough, I am talented enough or whatever I have to say to myself to encourage myself. There are moments where I question myself but when I look at my life I can’t see myself doing anything but what I’m doing right now.
Are there any Hollywood Directors that have really inspired you?
Yes! James Wan is a huge inspiration for me in this industry. Seeing the work he has done and just how he allows his creativity to speak for him is amazing all in itself.
What are you working on at the minute?
I have a few big projects that’s soon to come to the public, at the moment I’m not able to speak on it however I will be excited to share it with you once its publicised.
You’re not even 20 yet you’ve got your own production company and awards to your name as a Writer and Director! What do you hope the next 20 years have in store for you?
In the next 20 years I hope to still be in film however that will not be my only venture. I do have other dreams and goals I would love to explore and tap into including helping the next generation of creatives get their shot into the business.
I know God and religion is a huge part of your life….is every day the opportunity for you to achieve the dreams set from above?
Yes my faith is a big asset in my life, at times where I feel low or discouraged I lean on my faith to get me through it. Just being able to wake up everyday and know I have another chance at life is a blessing all in itself.
