Susan Yam-Yam Shaw
Susan Shaw is a seasoned and well known actress in Hong Kong and is also famous in the Asia region including China, Taiwan , Singapore and Malaysia . She has been active in the film industry since 1970.
It was so difficult to get into the film industry in Hong Kong many years ago. Susan initially worked as a nurse in a ship owned by the shipping magnate, Tung Chao Yung, father of Tung Chee Hwa, the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR. When they were waiting for the schedule of the ship named “Universal“, Susan met the father of her ex-classmates who was a Japanese translator at that time. Susan went to the shooting scene in Golden Harvest, a film production company where the legendary Bruce Lee noticed her and found that she was very suitable to be an actress, so Bruce Lee suggested the company to do an audition for Susan. According to Susan, it was under these circumstances, she started her career in the film industry in this way.
Susan is a well-respected artist in the industry. She has been a winner of Best Supporting Actress in the Hong Kong Film Awards twice, once for her performance in The Pye Dog in 2008 and the other for her performance in the movie, Gallants in 2011. She was also nominated for the Taiwan Golden Horse Award (known as the Oriental Oscar). Recently, with her performance in the short film, The Unknown Mother, Susan was awarded Best Actress in Glendale International Film Festival 2019 in California and East Europe International Film Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
Many of her notable work such as Full Strike, Happiness, Dearest Anita obtained a number of international awards and recognitions worldwide.
